We at the Kirklees & Calderdale Junior Lawyers Division committee recently had the pleasure of being invited by our lovely friend Lauren Moore at the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield & Bradford to visit our local animal centre in Halifax. š¾
Lauren kindly gave us a tour of the existing animal centre which is made up of dog kennels, the cattery and the small animals unit (think all things small and furry!) š°
The animal centre has not been updated in over 40 years and sadly it is no longer fit for purpose. We saw first-hand all of the renovation work that desperately needs doing to better support the animals. There are plans to pull down entire buildings and rebuild them so the animals can have more space, better care and even more love! š
The fantastic staff and volunteers at the animal centre in Halifax have been working tirelessly with the resources they have to support the animals, but redevelopment is now crucial to continue this amazing work. This is where the K&C JLD come in! We need to help bring awareness and raise funds for this very worth cause (just look at their little faces) š±
Now that we have seen the work that needs doing, we are putting together some exciting plans for the upcoming year. This may include events organised by the RSPCA that the K&C JLD get involved with or promote; events put on by the JLD to bring awareness and raise money; and collaborations between both organisations. One way or another, we are going to do our bit to help get this animal centre rebuilt. š
In the meantime, whilst those plans are being solidified, there are lots of things you can do to assist the RSPCA, including:
Donate old clothes, homeware and furniture to the local charity shop.

On a serious note, a lot of the animals are desperate for a fresh start in life. All of the animals available for adoption or fostering are here through no fault of their own. Some of them have been neglected, abused or abandoned. The RSPCA helps these fur babies find their forever family - something that would not be possible without the unwavering dedication of Lauren and the crew.
