"10% of career success is down to performance, 30% is your image/brand and 60% is down to exposure and who you know." - Deborah Ogden
Deborah Ogden, personal branding expert, joined the Kirklees and Calderdale JLD for its first professional development event: a personal branding workshop!
What is a personal brand?
Your personal brand is how someone would describe you if you weren't in the room.
"It takes at least 6 months to build a personal brand." - Deborah Ogden
Deborah introduced our members to the personal branding wheel. The personal branding wheel is comprised of 8 sections, each one an element of behaviour that together makes a personal brand; non-verbal behaviour, online presence and clarity of brand being a few!
Each attendee was then asked to reflect on their personal brand by giving themselves a score out of 10 for each section.
It turns out your personal branding score is a lot like your bank balance, you’re never as well off as you first thought!
How can I influence my personal brand?
"People create their first impression of you in 1/10 of a second, if that impression is negative it can take you 8 - 10 subsequent meetings to undo that impression." - Deborah Ogden
A personal brand isn’t something you choose to have; we all have a personal brand whether we are aware of it or not.
The first step to improving your personal brand is becoming aware of the message you are sending to clients, co-workers and employers.
By asking trusted colleagues for feedback you can gain clarity and control over your personal brand and ensure you are noticed, heard and remembered in a positive way:
Deborah's top tips:
