Self-Defence/Wing-Chun Workshop!

Despite the rainy weather our self-defence event still went ahead yesterday, with thanks to Ridley & Hall Solicitors for sponsoring and Huddersfield Wing Chun School for hosting!

It is a sad fact that if you put five women in a room, at least one will have a story of assault or abuse so our Chair, Jess, was passionate about putting on this self-defence class for our members.

It provided a good opportunity to recap law around self-defence before trying our hands at defending against oncoming attacks and breaking out of various holds.

The lesson was insightful and reminded us to be mindful of our surroundings (careful of those earpods and phones!) and how to attempt to de-escalate a situation through diversion before needing to engage.

JLD member and Ramsdens Solicitors LLP Trainee Megan Smith said: "Not only did I have a great time learning some new skills, but the event gave the opportunity to revisit and revise the law on self-defence, and what constitutes reasonable and proportionate force - perfect timing ahead of the SQE1 next month!"

(Look out for an upcoming reel on our social media highlighting a few of these self-defence techniques!)
